Lancet Migration — North American Hub

MH2C co-chairs the North American regional hub of Lancet Migration, a global research collaboration translating evidence into action on the health of people who migrate.

About Lancet Migration

Lancet Migration Global Collaboration for Advancing Migration Health is an international collaboration hosted by The Lancet, one of the world's leading medical journals. It brings together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to generate and disseminate evidence on the health of migrants and displaced populations, and to translate that evidence into policy and practice at the global level.

Lancet Migration works to ensure that the health needs of migrants and displaced populations are reflected in international health agendas and global frameworks on migration governance. Through rigorous research, high-impact publications, and sustained advocacy, Lancet Migration has established itself as a leading voice on migration and health worldwide.

Regional hubs

Lancet Migration operates through a network of regional hubs that anchor its work in specific geographic and policy contexts. Two hubs are currently active, with more networks to be formed in the near future.

Latin America Hub

Reflects the growing body of research and advocacy on migration and health across Latin America — a region experiencing significant internal and cross-border displacement driven by economic, political, and environmental factors. The hub supports regionally grounded evidence and strengthens connections between Latin American researchers and the global Lancet Migration network.

European Hub

Connects researchers and institutions across the European region, addressing the health needs of migrants and displaced populations in one of the world's most complex migration contexts. The hub engages with European Union policy processes and contributes to regional and global evidence on migration and health.

A new hub for North America

Lancet Migration is expanding its regional network with the establishment of a new North America Hub. Aligned with Lancet Migration Global Collaboration priorities, the Hub will anchor Lancet Migration's work in the North American context, connecting researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and community partners across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. It will generate and mobilize evidence on the health of migrants and displaced populations in the region and contribute that evidence to global policy conversations.

MH2C at the helm

MH2C founders and co-directors Dr. Gabriel Fabreau and Dr. Annalee Coakley have been invited to serve as co-chairs of the Lancet Migration North America Hub. They will lead the hub alongside Professor Paul Spiegel of Johns Hopkins University, a distinguished global health leader and co-chair of Lancet Migration at the global level.

This invitation reflects the standing of MH2C and the University of Calgary within the global migration and health research community, and the confidence of Lancet Migration's leadership in MH2C's capacity to anchor this work in North America.

The North America Hub will produce research and advocacy outputs that shape migration and health policy and practice across the region. It will foster collaboration among researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and community partners, and strengthen connections with the broader Lancet Migration global network.
