Hearing Loss in Refugee Patients

Overview

Hearing loss is commonly encountered in refugee patients of all ages. Most refugee children will not have received neonatal or childhood hearing screening in their country of origin.

When to Refer

*     Any child with hearing concerns or language delay: refer promptly for audiological assessment

*     Adults with hearing complaints: refer for assessment

*     Routine hearing screen offered to all school-aged children

 

IFHP Coverage

The IFHP covers:

*     Hearing tests (audiological assessment)

*     Hearing aids for eligible patients
