About MH2C

We are a collective of healthcare professionals, community organizations, and volunteers dedicated to improving health outcomes for refugees and migrants in Calgary.

Our Mission

“Nothing About Us, Without Us.”

We place migrants, refugees, and the service providers who work alongside them at the centre of every study, program, and policy we pursue.

Our Story

From a protest outside a clinic to a national health collective.

  1. 2012

    A protest, and a beginning

Founders Dr. Annalee Coakley and Dr. Gabriel Fabreau help organize a protest against federal cuts to the Interim Federal Health Program — cuts that stripped healthcare coverage from many refugees in Canada.

  2. 2014

    A clinic partnership

A formal partnership is established at a Calgary refugee health clinic, grounding the work in direct community care.

  3. 2016

    Refugee Health YYC

Refugee Health YYC is formally established at the University of Calgary's O'Brien Institute for Public Health.

  4. 2024

    MH2C

The organization is renamed the Migration Humanitarian Health Collective — reflecting an expanding scope across research, education, innovation, and policy, and the co-chairship of the North American regional hub of Lancet Migration.
